Thumbs down whoops... I dropped my hard drive

In preparation for redecorating my house, I managed to drop my external SCSI hard drive off a table. The front snapped off, but apart from that the actual innards don't seem cracked or smashed.

The only little problem is that two little wires have got disconnected from the main unit. They are attached to the front fascia of the drive (The bit that snapped off - with the LEDs ) and i'm pretty sure that they need to slot onto the little 'pins' that are glued on top of the actual drive itself, but there are a few of these. The actual wires are red and black, so it should be simple electrics to fit them back i suppose.

Does anyone have any idea what i'm talking about? it should be a simple problem to solve, its just quite difficult to describe.

any help would be appreciated - because I really don't want to put those wires round the wrong way and short circuit the whole thing!!!

thanks,

Leo

Every drive is different. I think it would be a good idea to call the drive manufacturer so that they can either tell you where the plug goes, or point you to a service manual. Perhaps a Google search for your particular model would also provide some information.

The alternative is to put a bit of tape round each wire seperately so that the core cannot touch anything else. It's almost certainly only the feed to the power indicator or the SCSI drive activity LED, both of which I (and maybe you) could live without.

If however the drive's power switch or the SCSI ID select is on the front panel it's a different story and I'd go along with Chris's reply.

If it is the power on LED / SCSI activity LED then you won't do any damage connecting them round the wrong way - the LED just won't work.

thanks everyone, I think I'll try and just tape around the wires - it almost definetly only connects to the LEDs. I'll have to try it in a few days though, because my mac is in a box hiding from the decorating work at the moment

Ta,
