startup problem

Dear all,

I've had this problem for quite a while. Hope someone out there could help me get rid of it.

I'm still using OS 9.2.2. What happened is whenever I boot the computer, a Power Mac G4 (500MHz) I bought in 2001, it always opens the CD tray. This is annoying.

I was wondering whether there is a preference file I could delete to get rid of this bad "habit" of my Mac.

Thanks in advance!

oh my gosh.... I'm not the only one with this problem! Do hope someone has an answer. My G4 Sawtooth (400MHz), purchased 3/2000 started doing it recently after my husband updated the firmware.

Good Luck!

Found answer to problem (in my case that is). Went searching other forums & at Computing.Net another Macuser with this problem posted his query & later added that he had found the cause... his iMate. Possibly are you using one too? I am, as really like my old "clicking", white keyboard & Turbo Mouse. When I removed the iMate & inserted an Apple Pro mouse the CD tray stayed put on startup. Here is post I found.....

"I managed to have an Apple Tech visit me for a seminar on OS X. He helped me in finding out what the solution to the problem. The problem was from an adapter connecting on the keyboard(an iMate adapter for a dongle key). After removing the adapter, the cd rom tray works properly."

Good Luck... hope this helps.

Great!

Thank you, Beth for your answer!

That's exactly what caused the problem, the iMate. The only problem is that I have to use Asian Quark, so I have to do with it for now.
