Question Windows to Mac data transfer - HELP!

Hi! I am new to this, so please bear with me. I have never used a MAC in my life (sorry). I sell barcode label printers , scanners, software, etc. I have a customer (a small grammar school library) with a Power Mac 4400 which she describes as a "bare bones unit" It has MacLink 8.1. She is running a library software program called CIRC/CAT by Winnebago. She wants to do a physical inventory of all her books (about 7000). For that she needs an untethered scanner and a way to interface it with her program. Winnebago has not been particularly helpful. I have a neat new unit that will scan about 100 barcodes at a time in an untethered mode. It has a serial connection, but basically software for Windows. It is really inexpensive. So, I have the ability to load the barcode info into something like "Notepad" as a tab delimited file. My question is - can this file be accessed by her MAC, so that she can somehow interface it with her book circulation inventory?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. As I said, this is a small Catholic school with virtually no budget.
My thanks in advance to anyone with any ideas.
