Itunes Catalog busted?

Okay something happened to my iTunes catalog, some of the songs it will say it playing one thing in the list (ex: Lord of the Rings) but the song its playing was something from George Jones..

do I have to erase the entire catalog and reimport everything? will that even fix it?

any help appreciated. I'm at the point where I'm considering deleting the entire library and reimporting from scratch files / cd's

this is on a desktop mac running 10.7 and all the latest updates if it matters, and the glitch started right after upgrading to 10.7

Try repairing permissions first. Download Onyx (free ) and run it.

Tried that today (wonderful program btw, thanks) however it did not fix the problem unfortunately.

I have tried everything short of completely deleting the iTunes library list stored in my home folder and reimporting it. somehow or other it links to completely different albums when it plays them and even when it transfers them to my iPod. I have never had a problem with iTunes like this and would love to know what could cause it.

reimporting all my songs from scratch would fix it I assume? I am somewhat loathe to do this as I have something over 35,000 songs in my current library and this would take some time to accomplish

I noticed last night that Apple released an iTunes update so I would check to see if that fixes the problem Also if you live close enough to an Apple store I would talk to them

I ended up giving up and beginning the long process of reimporting the damaged songs from the source materiel as i find the ones that are missing / broken.

strangely enough whatever caused the songs that got mislabeled actually changed their names on the original files also. so they had to be deleted as well this was a very odd experience and will definitely teach me to make multiple backups of certain things
