Has anyone used the Elgato Video Capture?

Hi, has anyone used the Elgato Video Capture hardware? What do you think? I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it will do what I want. I want to record vhs tapes, dvds and dvr recordings, as well as homemade movies.

I've not used it but a quick google for brands I recognized that are also in the field turned up this product. I don't know if it's any better but the price certainly is. Roxio is a reputable company as well, which helps.

Thanks Mrqrm that brand looks quite good and an excellent price. I'm still looking for reviews on it though. I was given the elgato so it's brand new and still sealed from the Apple store. I want to be sure before I open it that it has good reviews. It's like $99.95 so if it has bad reviews I'll take it back for a refund and get that one you recommended.

Any one else out there who's into multimedia and has used the Apple brand?

One difference I noticed is it appears the El Gato one includes fairly straightforward software with it. It also has great industry recognition.

The Roxio one appears to just be hardware that lets you import video into iMovie. Either one should work fine. You may prefer to have a preliminary step before importing into iMovie -- your call. If you do, I'd stick with the El Gato one.

I have not used elgato video capture but I do use their Turbo.264 encoder and have not had problems. I talked to other user of the various elgato products and always heard favorable response on the company.

Of course Roxio is a well thought of company as well. I would look at differences in functionality but if it is staight recording from VHS tape I'd exchange it, and use the $40 difference for something else.

Well, you know I have decided to have a go and try out the apple one. I have heard bad reviews on all the others. Trouble is that I can only use it with Apple and that's a drawback in some ways. Maybe not, I'll see. I have used their tape LP/cassette recorder with Final Vinyl and that is superb. I'll take a chance then. I wish the companies would stop messing about with less than good products just to get them out on the market. Why don't they work at it and design a good product that does everything you need?

Bahhhh!

Thanks all for reading and replying.
