TV series Closer
Anyone watch the Closer on TNT TV? I have been able watch this show when I miss an episode. I gave it a try and no dice! Do I have to run a version of Windows Media Player? Tell me no, and that there is a work around.

Closer on TNT
Thanks mmkerk,
I guess more and more will cost and less and less will be free. I already miss last year.

At least the episodes are available - for a price.
I remember SO many good but now-obscure TV shows & movies from the pre-VCR days that have yet to make it onto DVD - or old soundtracks that have yet to make it to iTunes or CD.
Seems like it took forever for "The Final Countdown" (the movie, not the Europe song) to make it to DVD - and I still can't seem to get the soundtrack

Closer on TNT
Solitare,
You are so correct. I would grip if I was hung with a new rope. I would say that my real gripe is that last year I could watch a Closer show using QuickTime and now I have to have a PC to watch a missed one hour show. But I am with you about being able to find, buy and look at a tremendous range of books, movies and TV without leaving my home. Thanks for the reply.

Is this what you're looking for? Hopefully that has all the episodes you are looking for (free).

Closers
Great link mrcqm Thanks
I agree too that its awful when you end up paying for HDTV, Cable, ON Demand free movies and they still charge you 1.99 up to 4.99 or even higher. We've tried to restrain ourselves from buying the newer ones which are not free and still getting tempted. I got a 56" DLP Tv from an online classified ad and we just love it.
http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/dvr/prod...p?model=56HM66
We were Tivo Users and I have to admit that i despise the Comcast HD box. We'll need to wait a bit for the updated Tivo from wish list savings fund lol
https://www3.tivo.com/store/boxes.do?type=special I want the lifetime service plan option
Couldn't recommend their service higher. I have friends that networked their macs with a free web download and integrated it into a DLP HD TV network, I believe it was called Myth. They said it was complicated to configure but I don't know many mac addicts that would stop

Closer on TNT
Ladyhawk,
Thanks for the great info. My son who is also a Mac addict has a server in his house which contains all of the families DVDs. Using an app for the iPhone that turns the iPhone into a TV remote he can select movies wirelessly from the server and display them on his television and control the movie with his iPhone. I am so wanting to do that. I don't have a spare computer to run as a server, he tells me a Mac mini would do the trick. Has anybody tried to do that with a spare Macintosh? He has killed the cable and only looks at his movies or NetFlix movies. I guess if you did not have cable you could afford to buy, rent or download movies. He kept the cable internet connection.

Our G4 mini is acting as a server as well although we don't have much on it. I publish our photo albums to it using iWeb and then use it to show friends and family our albums. (I really don't like the idea of putting private stuff out on 3rd party storage and trusting them to protect it.) I've considered using it as a media server as well but haven't put the effort into it. Here in the states it would require about $4.50 in parts from Radio Shack plus a large external drive so it's very do-able.

What software is your son using to make this happen, please? I think I may try to do it as well.

I have an extra mini around here soon to have two of them and you've both perked an interest here.
I have a working SE-30 in the garage, a coworker had programmed one in his house for a security system, turning on lights etc at night.
Maybe the SE-30 is pure sentiment, it was my first upgrade at work from the Mac Plus (I know I"m dating my age now).
I bet I could put a cool paint job on it and put it on display in the house, something with an antiquity flair <mac grins>.

Movies from the Server
Hello,
Sorry for the delay in replaying about setting up a DVD movie server. My son has this information to pass on. I hope it helps.

Son: sure i am using remote buddy and vlc to drive it
i am using NFS mounts from the sever for the video library
http://www.iospirit.com/index.php?mo...b69941da6ce85b
Me: Will these guys know what you are talking about?
Son: not sure
the NFS stuff is not hard but is unknown by most
if they put a big hard drive on the mini
you would not need the server
i am doing it that way because i am going to do more than one tv
and i don't want to copy the content around
Me: So regular OS X 10.5
Son: yes
also if they have an intel mini they can run this
http://www.boxee.tv/
i am going to look at this option one day when i have spare time

You are welcome, I sent an email to Aaron, got no answer, so I copied and pasted your request to an iChat and got these answers. The mac is great, good luck and please let me know how this works for you.

NFS mounts are simple and reliable (Oracle runs most of their own internal databases using NFS mounts -- very stable tech). I can toss a couple of additional SATA drives in my computer and RAID them together so I won't have to worry about backing them up. Also, by placing the data physically away from the television, I won't have to worry about a noisy fan in the drive enclosure. The mini itself is super quiet.
Can't wait to get this project approved by my home's CFO.
