OSX or 9.1??

I have an iMac 350 that is running 8.6. I just purchased my first digital camera(Nikon 4500) and I need to be running at least 9.0 to load the software. My daughter just bought an iBook 600 with 10.1.2 and 9.2.2 and I can download my images very easily onto it using iPhoto. My question is ...
should I find 9.1 and use it(I understand it is very stable) or use 10.2.1 and 9.2.2? I plan to increase my ram to 320 mb reguardless of which way I go. One person tells me 10 and 9 are too unstable and another tells me my computer is too small to handle either of these systems. I need some advice here. TIA for anything you can tell me.

There's no reason buy 9.1 if you have an available copy of 9.2.2, which your iMac can easily handle. 9.2.2 would also be more stable than 9.1. It is also technically capable of running Mac OS X, but it would probably be sluggish on that machine.

Thank you for the advice. How sluggish is sluggish? Would it be best to reformat my hard drive and start from scratch?

I always reformat my own hard drive before a major system update, it's not necessary though. I've done OS installs on other peoples' computers without reformatting and they work just as well.

About the sluggishness- Alex put Mac OS X on his 333 Mhz iMac, but it was so slow that he went back to Mac OS 9.

Geez guys you're scarin' me here. After years on a PPC 7100/80, I finally got a G3 300 and just picked up my copy of Jaguar and you're telling me it's gonna' be too slow? Ouch!

ps - one reason I got the Jaguar was the offer for 9.2 for $20.00. I'm planning on partitioning my drive into 2 separate units, one for each system but you're making me leary of installing X at all.

Until I can upgrade my apps to X level I'll be using X for Internet plus some of the smaller X programs off MacAddict and Macworld CD's. Otherwise I'll be in 9 but I wanted to get familiar with X and see what the Unix base was like.
