Power Mac G4- Dual processor advantage?

I am switching over from PCs (after all the teasing I have given my wife for having an apple) and have been researching apples pretty intensely. I have narrowed my decision down to a power mac g4. I am now just trying to decide between the 933mgh and the dual 1ghz models. I was wondering if any of you had experience with both and might advise me. I will be doing mostly graphics work and some web development. I have seen some pretty different opinions regarding the speed difference or in some cases the lack there of between the two models. I appreciate any input you can give me.

Hi tgun, welcome to the Macintosh Users Group!

I have experience with a Dual 800Mhz G4. It was the model that the Dual 1Ghz replaced. I highly recommend the dual processors if you do work in Photoshop. Some other Adobe products are also dual processor compliant, and there are more to come. The Dual G4 processors always toast the Pentium 4 in Photoshop tests.

Mac OS X is fully compliant, so that means even the Finder will be faster than a single processor machine.

According the chart below, taken from this page on Apple's site, the Dual 1Ghz is 78% faster than the 933Mhz in Final Cut Pro 3.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any more info .

933 is nice too...

Hey tgun,

Actually i just bought a G4 933 and it certainly does the job for me, i use it for graphics work Photo/Ill/Quark etc....also will be using it for creating my own DVD's etc...i am sure that the dual is better, but i guess it all depends on your budget, i believe the difference is about $600...that's not to say that it's not worth it, but i went for the 933 and am loving it so far...
