Macworld Expo New York: Keynote Announcements
- Mac OS X 10.2, also known as Jaguar, is due to be released on August 24th.
New Features: iChat, iCal, iSync, Rendezvous (automatic network device discovery) and Inkwell, a handwriting recognition technology.
Improvements/Enhancements: Improved Finder, Sherlock 3, Mail improvements (including a junk mail filter) and a much-improved Address Book.
- .Mac, a modified version of iTools, is to be released as a subscription service that costs $99 per year. iTools (free) subscribers will only pay $50 the first year.
.Mac features: 15MB IMAP email, HomePage, 100MB iDisk, Backup software, Virex, Online Support, and integration with iCal.
- iTunes 3, the new version of iTunes, was released today and may be downloaded free of charge from Apple's website.
iTunes 3 Features: Smart Playlists, Audible.com, Sound Check, Song Ratings, Play Counts and some other features.
- iPod Changes:
Prices reduced by $100 on both the 5 and 10 GB models. The 10 GB iPod was reduced by 2mm. 20 GB iPods were introduced, and come with a carrying case and remote control. Songs may now be picked by composer, iCal and the Address Book are integrated with the iPod, and a small breakout-like game is included. Apple announced official Windows iPod support, with the popular Musicmatch software.
