Chrome Browser Problem : using http-> can't see gmails

On my imac, I am running the chrome browser, under Lion, with the same set up as on my macbook air, BUT on the imac, I can't see any emails at the google gmail site unless I switch to the basic non-http setting. Any ideas about conflicting programs. I app zapped chrome and reinstalled and I still get the same problem. Could it be parrallels...which i am only running on the imac or ???
