Smile number of files

Lonetrekker,
Thanks for your answer. I almost never burn anything - maybe once or twice a year when I have a new piece of music ready to go to CD. And, besides, it is not a matter of seeing space of any amounts taken from me. It is the file numbers ever increasing, when I see them statistically listed when using the disk utility to repair any permissions.
I tried the derien utility offered earlier. It did not show any unusual file sizes for the files that were listed in the App folder, nor any files I might not have expected to be there.
I am thinking of going to see a genius at the Mac store.

If you go in Finder and look at the default smart folders (search folders), take a look at the time based searches (today, yesterday, past week). In my case, I find a limited number of system generated files. They don't bother me one bit but I imagine they add up over time to result in the type of situation you describe.

Mrcqm,
I don't have any success trying to search these folders - today, etc. There is a toggle switch beside them that checks on and off as I click on them repeatedly. What procedure do you recommend for doing your suggestion?
