Putting New HD in my 7500 Power PC

Hello, I have a problem - now getting bigger. I have an "updated" 7500 (w/ g3 card). I bought a used 9 gig HD and unplugged the old 2 gig HD. The computer doesn't recognize the new drive.

Now, I accidently removed the "Finder" from the 2 gig drive and I have nothing but my cd and floppy drive - no access to either HD. And, I can't find my "emergency disk" for floppy start-up. My Nortons Utilites STARTS the computer, but doesn't recognize either HD. I tried running the First Aid (?) and scsi fix (?) programs, but still don't recognize the HDs.

Please help!!!

Thanks,

Dennis

The new HD is a nikimi, ultra2, scsi. I am going right now to nikimi.com to see what I can find out re: ID, compatibility, etc.

So,

1. How do I get "finder" back into my 2 gig?
2. How do I get the up-dated 9 gig to be recognized?

Make sure the SCSI IDs of the two drives are not the same, and do not conflict with any other devices. The 2 GB drive should be SCSI ID 0 if it shipped with the computer and the other drive should be set to 1, 2, 4 or 6. If you do not know how to change the ID of a drive, check the manufacturer's website.

You'll need a copy of the Finder to put it back on the drive. System files cannot be deleted from the start-up disk because they are in use, so it may be in the Trash.

Note: Please do not post the same message multiple times. Thank you.

Hello Alex,

Thank you for your reply and suggestions. I am at the library using their computer. When I go home I will see if the Finder is, indeed, in the trash.

But/however/oh oh - the computer does not even recognize the existance of the HD from which I accidently deleted the Finder -

1. How will I get the Finder back into the 2 gig HD if the HD icon isn't even on the desktop screen? (woe is me, eh?)

Thank you, I'm looking forward to your response.

Dennis

As I said before, make sure the SCSI IDs of the two drives are not the same and do not conflict with any other devices.

HD not recognized

Hello,

I accidently removed the "Finder" from my system folder on my HD. (It is not in the trash)

Now, the Mac does not recognize there is a HD - so I can't access the HD to put the system back together.

How do I get into my HD? I have a cd that opens with the original OS, but that doesn't recognize the HD either (and I've tried scsi prob and disk first aid, etc.

HELP!!!

Dennis

Please do not create new threads about the same topic. Read all the posts in this thread completely. Do you know how to set the SCSI IDs on the two drives in your machine? Make sure they do not conflict.

can't get into the HDs to create ids

Sorry about two posts - I really see them as two seperate issues - one troubleshootoing, one software.

I can't get into the HD to do anything with them - like putting in ID's. It's the getting into them that is the problem - how can I do that when the computer doesn't give me an icon?

Thanks Alex.

The SCSI ID of a device is set by the jumpers on the device itself. There may be instructions on the label, if not, check the manual or the manufacturer's web site.
